Carla Buchanan is currently an author of Science Fiction and Dystopian Romance who started her writing journey as a writer of African American Romance and Contemporary Romance. She has over ten self-published books in those genres, plus one professionally published by Harlequin Kimani Romance entitled, Return to Passion. Carla has also recently developed a pen name, Compton Carlotta, to write in the genre that’s a guilty pleasure for her – Urban Fiction and Street Lit Romance.
While she has changed genres, Carla still has a passion for putting diverse characters in her books and wants to make sure diverse characters make it into conversations and depictions of the future. She makes sure her characters are a little unexpected, completely relatable, and not afraid to get into a little trouble.
Never intending to be a writer, Carla went to Middle Tennessee State University, majoring in Fashion Merchandising and Design. While in college, she met her husband and had her first child. After college, Carla moved to Georgia, where she had her second child, got a couple of fur babies, and rediscovered her love for reading, which inspired her to write her first book.
Carla loves living in the south and considers herself a Southern Belle with a big heart and a hood playlist. She is a Laker’s fan for life and still considers herself a Cali girl deep down inside, even though she only spent little more than eight years of her life there.
Carla is currently working on a free blog novel available on her website called A Black Girl’s Guide to the Multiverse, which will soon be converted into a full-length novel and become Volume One of a series.
